Do the choices really matter? ...

People are mostly of the opinion that what one becomes in life is because of the choices we make. What I heard two days back made me think otherwise.

I was at my brother’s school with my dad to meet the Principal. After the board exams, before the commencement of the next academic year, students like my brother moving on to class 11 will have to meet the Principal with his/her parents. As dad will not be around during the time we wanted to find out if my presence would be enough.

As we got talking, the Principal was making a statement with which we were in agreement long before he even uttered it; that all the students would not be given what they wanted, the streams I mean. It’s obvious that schools have their limited options for students’ in-take for a particular stream. But the thought that found a certain pity was that, many of us students couldn’t decide what we wanted based on our aptitude which of course was determined by meaningless grades from a concoction of assorted subjects.
